mobile.de was launched in 1996 as a pioneering online database of vehicles for sale. The goal was to make it as easy as possible for German dealers and private sellers to create listings — and for buyers to quickly locate the car, truck, motorcycle or mobile home they were searching for.
mobile.de soon established a loyal online community of dealers; more than 35,000 strong in Germany. Today, mobile.de is a prime marketplace for European vehicle sales, with more than 1.4 million listings and ads in nine languages. To support international vehicle trade, mobile.de also provides additional marketplaces in Italy (www.automobile.it) and France (www.automobile.fr).
Dealers can upload as many as 15 photos per ad and can take advantage of unique special features, such as the market-value calculator. Manufacturers, wholesalers and rental companies can target ads exclusively to commercial customers. Buyers can specify detailed individual preferences to receive customized offers.
For private sellers, basic four-week ads are free. Additional options include more prominent placement on the mobile.de home page, larger photos and a longer listing period.
Being the clear #1 in online car classifieds in Germany and helping mobile.de to be "the" force in selling new and used cars for dealers and OEMs. Creating a buyer focused company, drive buyer NPS without losing our dealer heritage.
Launching mobile.de new cars for our dealers is in my opinion one of the biggest steps and challenges since mobile.de's launch in 1995 due to recent changes in the automobile industry.

It is great to see how our new and old TV commercials engage people and nearly everybody has an opinion on them.

I was asked to join in fall 2009. Since I am very enthusiastic about cars and classifieds I wanted to work at the #1 in this field so I decided to move to Berlin.

Strategic Sales Manager
Definitely growing together with mobile.de professionally and personally. Taking part in making mobile.de an even stronger market leader both in Germany and Europe.
I started off with acquiring new international key account clients and developing new sales strategies and strategic partnerships. More recently, I have travelled around Germany a lot giving presentations at dealer conventions and our own mobile.de road shows.
When I first joined four years ago coming from a manufacturer I had the feeling that the online automotive business was pretty much as developed as it could be when in reality there are still endless possibilities of developing the business further and making it fit for the future.
To be honest it is probably just like the feeling of making a difference and really playing part in the development of new ideas and strategies.
Being surrounded by many highly motivated colleagues and even some car fanatics like me. ;-)
For my previous employer Mercedes- Benz I was responsible for online marketing in the Berlin branch and therefore always a big fan of mobile.de. So when I was asked if I could imagine myself working for mobile.de the choice wasn’t very hard to make. I was looking for a new challenge especially with an international focus and I truly found it. ;-)
I really cherish our culture of getting people involved, having an open ear to customers, being in a very dynamic surrounding and last but not least because I am working for the market leader in the automotive online sales business in Germany!

Well there are really ALOT interesting projects, honestly about 90% of all projects I did were cool and interesting. To name a few:
- Ad historisation (was the coolest of all)

- Billing migration
I have no biggest surprise – at least none I remember right know - but I have a lot of surprises in the daily work. Most I find in our code (positive and negative :) )
Things actually change! I’ve been in many companies which were stuck in their own business (inside & outside). I’ts amazing that mobile.de is a dynamic business and reacts like that.
It’s the freedom and trust in the whole company. I single person actually could do something in the company with impact. Also the platform is really complex as well as the infrastructure around it. It’s always a benefit for a developer to work in such a big environment.

The development makes fun. Several reasons for that are:

Together with my team, we are aiming to building Italian Marketplaces of automobile.it with the ambition to become market leader.
There is nothing much more exited then ramping up from scratch a new business in a new marketplace.

Italian Dealer Roadshow. We visit a group of Dealers in North Italy and that was an amazing experience. They were so happy to meet someone from mobile.de that they kept us “busy” questioning about the business and our approach in Italy that each day we finished each meeting around midnight. It was so exited!
My favorite benefit is the interactions with other companies of eCG. I've met very talented and fascinating people and I have learned a lot from them too.
mobile.de decided to expand its success also internationally by launching in Feb 2010 other marketplaces as automobile.it in Italy. I thought that it was a huge opportunity so I decided to apply for this job.

Mobile Marketing Manager
At the moment I am responsible for mobile marketing within the performance marketing team. Mobile marketing includes mobile SEM, mobile display marketing and mobile cooperation. My goal is to promote our apps and mobile portal. That means to gain new app users and visitors.
All projects are kind of cool, really! I like challenges and finding solutions for special cases or new topics. Mobile marketing means also to do something completely new because it’s a new field of marketing and lacks given standards and is surrounded by rapidly changing circumstances.
It feels wonderful to be part of such a cool company and have so many nice colleagues around. That atmosphere combined with a good work life balance and our gym makes it a cool place to work. I am surprised that this is such a good benefit to feel great and to deliver.
We really have nice events with the team itself or the whole company. During these events you realize even more what kind of wonderful people are working together at mobile.de.
Taking over a lot of responsibility within the own working field and having enough free space to make the best out of it. That is how I personally can deliver the best. There are plenty benefits around. I bet everyone will get his or her own.
I am a passionate onliner since 1995. I worked for another online marketplace before and was already attracted to this business model. My luck was having friends working at mobile.de. That way I found out that I would fit in and mobile.de and me were compatible.

Right now, one of the most importing projects I am working on is the new cars project. It is quite exciting to be involved into such a decisive time for our business.
Besides the new cars project I am currently running a fun and entertaining consumer project with two independent filmmakers who are trying to trade their way up on mobile.de – from a Polo to a Porsche.
To understand that everyone can express their opinion and how much of an impact each single employee can actually make was quite surprising to me.
I think every leisure get together, every summer and Christmas celebration etc. has been quite amazing. We get to celebrate our achievements and have fun together.

I’m leading our Product and New Business team. We try to make the car buying and selling process one that delights our customers, and we use a start-up mentality to grow new areas of business for the company.
We’re releasing our first concepts in the New Car space. mobile.de is already the largest platform to find new cars in Germany, and we’re working to make the online new car purchase experience a seamless one.
Even in a well-established company, you can act small and quickly, with the right approach and techniques.
My wife and I moved from London, so that I could join mobile.de. The company has made that really easy for us.
