    I initially started working for eBay.nl. After the acquisition, I started working for Marktplaats. Of course I did what was asked, but I deeply deeply hated the move from eBay to Marktplaats … for two long weeks. Then I realized that that crappy looking classifieds site was in fact super strong, super sexy and had a tremendous amount of potential and challenges ahead! Since then I am one of its biggest fans.
    I love the people, I love the brand, and I love the fact that every day brings a new challenge.

    I was looking for a next step in my career. When I learned about the position available at Marktplaats.nl I immediately jumped on. Marktplaats.nl is an institute in the Netherlands. It will be a challenge to find somebody who hasn’t heard of the site. Who doesn’t want to work there?! ;-)
    Besides the fact that I absolutely love Marktplaats, hearing all the amazing user stories is just fantastic. People that found a life partner or a friend, people that have their own business due to Marktplaats or the possibility Marktplaats gives to the less fortunate. Wherever I go and tell people I work for Marktplaats.nl and eBay.nl, they immediately start sharing great experiences they have had with both sites. I think it is fantastic that I have been given the opportunity to work with such smart, inspirational and passionate people, both locally as internationally. When I read or hear cool Marktplaats coverage and share it internally, I’m not just proud, all of my colleagues are too. That is a great environment to work in!
    I’m responsible for all Marktplaats.nl and eBay.nl PR in the Netherlands, from corporate related communications, trust & safety, to cars, services and housing, so you can imagine I work on a lot of cool projects ☺ An example of an amazing experience was a charity auction for a well known Dutch radio station. During five days the DJ’s of the radio stations stay in a house of glass on a square in one of the lager cities in the Netherlands to raise money for the Red Cross. During these days celebrities stopped by to drop off personal objects for the auction on eBay.nl. Seeing from such a close range a large part of the Dutch society working together to try and make a difference is just fantastic. Another great project was the launch of our new homepage. We took a chance in our PR strategy and that worked out even better than expected. That is just an awesome feeling.
    Over the years we have become a mature company – my goals are to maintain momentum for Marktplaats.nl in this phase, taking our Trust & Safety approach to the next level and educate our users that Marktplaats is THE starting point for ecommerce.
    Working in a fast paced e-commerce environment is exciting. Every day is different. It is great to meet interesting people, learn from my colleagues and most important have fun! I really like the fact that the company gives everyone many opportunities. Whatever your talent or interest is – there is always room to chase that dream.
    There have been many! From PR summits to Friday drinks at the pub. From working late together ordering pizza to get a job done to becoming good friends with your colleagues. Or the feeling you get when your strategy pays off. There is always another amazing experience around the corner.
    I think the biggest surprise for me was when we were still in our old office – far too small for all the employees we had at that time. People were sharing desks, phones, sitting in the hallway or were doing whatever was needed without ever complaining about it. It was an energetic and pleasant office to work in.

    I was introduced through a friend at eBay and moved over to Marktplaats last year
    There are a lot of new initiatives, and taking new initiatives is highly appreciated. It’s a young team, high energy level, and there always a lot going on. Dynamic, without loosing business and user interests out of sight
    Growing the services team by phone outreach, setting up new communication streams for more business-oriented customers, DM campaigns, steering onsite traffic
    I’m working to make Marktplaats business verticals a good place for the business advertiser, without making it a full B2C platform. I believe in the C2C strength
