What is eBay Classifieds?
eBay Classifieds launched in early 2009, with its first site in Spain; eBay Anuncios and thus, a new approach for eBay in Spain was born. With the launch of eBay Anuncios, all of the eBay assets in Spain have been combined to provide a complete and unique customer experience. On a single a newly designed eBay.es homepage, we offer the well known “eBay Classic” experience side by side with the popular classifieds format.
In early September 2009, Germany launched eBay Kleinanzeigen, the German version of eBay Classifieds. eBay Kleinanzeigen is an ideal format for those users who are looking for a simple, local online classifieds experience. Customers do not need to register and can place an ad on eBay Kleinanzeigen in less than two minutes.
In early November 2009, Italy launched its free eBay online classifieds site, eBay Annunci. In Italy, eBay has doubled its offer - in addition to the traditional e-commerce experience, eBay will offer free local classifieds ads on eBay Annunci.
In late March 2010, the U.S. launched the free, friendly and local eBay Classifieds. eBay Classifieds sets a new standard in the U.S. classifieds market with its clean, visual interface, trust and safety filtering technology and customer service support.
eBay Classifieds is a destination for locals to connect and fulfill the core need of finding immediate value across a range of categories – goods, jobs, cars and more. The challenge is to minimize costs and business disruptions, while making key technology, infrastructure, and setup improvements.As part of eBay, I expected the classifieds team to have a "large corporation" culture. eBay Classifieds feels a lot more like a startup than I expected, which supports the fast-paced, nimble business priorities.This is a hard question--I would probably say individually, I find the personal investment in employees I've seen to be very unique and worthwhile. While this has manifested itself in many ways, two of my favorites include a manager recommending, encouraging the reading of and discussing a management philosophy book focused on improving operational excellence; and the amount of caring I've seen managers demonstrate when it comes to motivating and fostering a team.My favorite benefit is the interactions with my local and extended teams. I've met very fascinating people, had interesting discussions and made some good friends.A friend of mine, a developer at eBay Classifieds at the time, encouraged me to apply for the Program Manager position at eBay Classifieds. While I already had a good opinion of eBay Classifieds based on my conversations with him, I was very thrilled about the opportunity once I met the team. It was the right blend of challenge, responsibility, and excitement, and I decided in no time that I wanted to be part of this high-energy, vibrant team.During my first week, my manager casually remarked that things move at a very fast pace in classifieds, and he couldn't have been more correct. I cannot think of a single week that didn't present a new challenge. We are constantly trying to do more and be faster and better. The drive and commitment is apparent in every product release and every initiative we undertake. I really enjoy working with very bright people who are passionate about their work. -

It was a blast!The amount of work we actually accomplish, being such a small team!Team meeting at 3:00 am on a Monday night when we were about to launch eBay Anuncios, eBay Coches and eBay Pisos. It was a totally “team-building” experience.Being able to work with a group of amazingly talented people and be able to share experiences and learn from everyone.I wanted a career change and eBay Anuncios offered the best option I could wish for: to work in a friendly, open-minded and hip atmosphere and learn how an Internet company really worked.Because it’s fun! This new platform was built from scratch in a little less than two months by my development team and myself... it was a lot of sleepless nights for the three of us, but in the end we were able to deliver a feature rich product with good stuff under the hood. One of the best projects of my whole career.The team. It's a great group of people, totally focused and devoted to succeed at doing their job in the best way. This definitely exceeded my expectations of what a good working environment could be.Many, but actually the most amazing one was asking the community to help save a life and see how they reacted immediately to make a person's life a lot better. That day I realized what a community truly means: It has nothing to do with having a discussion board or community flagging, but it's all about the people in it and how they interact. You just try to make their stay nice on your site.I get the best of both worlds: On the one side I get all the benefits of working on a small team where you have visibility to the whole business, and on the other side, you get the benefits of working for a big company where you have a lot of things to leverage and share.Coming from my own web solutions company I wanted to work in a place that would have a small team so I could learn a lot from the different parts of the business (as I was used to).
